Yes, You Can Go Solar Without Installing Rooftop Panels (Here’s How)

It's easy to sign up for Community Solar

Since I moved into this house 2 years ago, I have thought about getting solar panels on the roof. The roof is absolutely perfect for solar panels – it faces south and has plenty of area. I could easily have enough solar panels to meet my demand.

However, I have seen heard stories of solar panel mounting brackets leaking and ultimately damaging the roof. Call me overcautious, but I wouldn’t risk a roof for a lower electricity bill. The cost/benefit doesn’t work out.

Enter Nexamp

I am so excited that my all of my electricity consumption can be covered by solar power. But how did this happen?

A few months ago, a guy from Nexamp came to my door. Busy as always, I chatted for a couple minutes, took his info, and said I would look into it. I never really did. However, at some point my girlfriend signed up for Nexamp, and I started thinking about it.

I remembered he had said a guaranteed 10% off of the electricity bill.

I didn’t question this guarantee too much. Sometimes the solar panel guys can be kinda shady (hehe), but I am not at all concerned about Nexamp. I minored in Environmental Studies in college, so I know that there are all sorts of state and utility sponsored programs to promote energy efficiency (free lightbulbs and such) and renewable energy.

So finally, I signed up, and yes, I will now have a 15% reduction in my electricity bill and I didn’t have to really do anything.

Not Only For Home Owners

Having Community Solar is not just for home owners. Renters can sign up as well.

I’ll be honest, saving 15% on my electricity bill isn’t going to send my kids to college. Far from it. But one of my goals this year is to cut costs, and so Nexamp fits in.

For January, I paid $155.50 for my Total Electric Charges. I work from home and my office is a small room on a crawl space with a large window that is single-pane and the original window from when the house was built in the 60s. It gets cold in here and I run a space heater most of the time. I am looking to replace the window, but that is going to be almost $1,000 when it is all said and done.

So saving 15% will save me about $20 per month during the winter and probably $10 in the summer.

I checked with Nexamp, and they are currently offering a $25 gift card to anyone who signs up, and the person who referred them ; )

Signing up with Nexamp was easy, it’s saves me money, and it supports renewable energy. What more can you ask for!?
